Starfish Cafe: Five years of serving fresh food and faith in Bay St. Louis
The day after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, Diane “Di” Fillhart and a fellow PNEUMA— Winds of Hope missionary member loaded up a pickup truck and adjoined trailer with food, water, clothing, cleaning products and medical supplies and set out from Bushwick, Brooklyn.
“We laid our hands on the map and said, ‘Today would be a really good day for God to tell us where we’re headed,’” said Fillhart, a Pennsylvania native.
After a mid-September stop in Baton Rouge and a chance run-in, an old friend suggested that they go to Bay St. Louis. Known to Gulf Coast locals as “The Bay,” the town of about 11,287 at the time, was taken under by Katrina’s nearly 30-foot storm surge and devastated by 120 mile per hour winds.

UPDATE: As of December 27th we purchased the property at 211 Main St. We took out a mortgage of $120k and our desire is to be debt free again ASAP!
All donations to the capital campaign are used to eliminate the mortgage
For some of you it may have been awhile since we connected, for some of you it is every day J. However, I was recently taught that the most common reason people give for not donating is that no one asked them, so here it goes.
Starfish Café is now 41/2 years old. We need $130K to complete the purchase transaction December 1st. We need your help! I have attached a link to our Go Fund Me Campaign. Please consider making a donation and sharing this link with those that may be interested in joining you in this miracle. We know that it truly will be a miracle to witness in the next 30 days!
All monies raised will go directly to the purchase of the building. We are debt free and our program has proven itself to be sustainable over the past 4 years. Your prayers and giving are received with great gratitude. Celebrating Starfish Café’s forever home!!
